Behavioral Health Billing Solutions (BHBS) is looking for an experienced behavioral health biller to join our growing company! BHBS is a growing, Ohio-based consultation agency that offers various services to the Ohio community of

Behavioral Health Agencies including full or partial billing services, CareLogic EHR evaluation/management and assessment of current billing processes.

Job Title: Lead Billing Specialist

Performance of Duties: The employee agrees that during the employment period they shall devote their full business time to the business affairs of the company and shall perform their duties faithfully and efficiently subject to the direction of the executive staff of the company. You must comply with all reasonable directions given to you and observe all the policies procedures and roles of the employer as may be introduced and/or amended from time to time.

Place of Work: Your normal place of work is your home office however the employer may require you to work at other locations on a temporary basis as we may from time to time require. The employer reserves the right to relocate you on reasonable notice to such other locations as we may from time to time require.

Reports to: Billing Manager Job Summary: The Lead Billing Specialist performs a variety of complex accounting functions for client billing, including maintenance of billing records; submitting clean claims to third party liability organizations; handling posting and management of account payments; timely billing or filing of claims for services rendered; reviewing claims that are rejected/denied/unpaid for errors or incorrect filing with the insurance carriers; billing patients and collecting for fees deemed to be the patient's responsibility; billing secondary insurance; data entry of encounter data (or fee tickets); acting as a resource to agency staff, and Evaluation and Management Documentation Guidelines. Assists Billing Manager with delegation of project work and duties of project team members. Assists with training of billing and project team members as requested.

Specific Job Duties:

  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
  • Participates in weekly billing team calls.
  • Working aging reports (Accounts Receivable) for commercial insurances, Medicare, Medicaid, and Employee Assistance Programs.
  • Prepares and submits clean claims to various insurance companies either electronically or by paper.
  • Reconciles Electronic Remittance Notices.
  • Answers questions from clients and insurance companies.
  • Translates patient information into alphanumeric medical codes.
  • Investigates and corrects rejected and denied medical insurance claims.
  • Denial Management to resolve claim issues.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality and adhere to all guidelines and regulations regarding patients’ medical records and billing records. Follows HIPAA Policies and Procedures.
  • Ensures timely collection of amounts past due.
  • Develop, implement, and consistently seek improvement in policies and procedures for all billing and reimbursement functions to ensure department activities are carried out professionally and ethically, and that clients are treated respectfully.
  • Participates and coordinates with the administrative team and other departments to ensure that all daily activities are completed efficiently, and company goals are achieved.
  • Project Management - Assists with delegation and training of projects to Project Assistants
  • Assists Billing Manager with training of BHBS employees and higher-level reporting, process improvement, etc.
  • The employer operates a policy of job flexibility and the employer may, at its discretion, require you to perform additional or other duties, whether skilled or unskilled, not within the scope of your normal duties and may at its discretion amend your job description at any time.

Home Office Equipment Requirements

The Company Work from Home policy requires that all employee’s “BYOD” - Bring Your Own Device.

Employees are required to utilize their own equipment and equipment related supplies. The following types of equipment under this policy include but are not limited to:

Computer Requirements

A desktop with 2 to 3 monitors, webcam, keyboard and mouse, or a laptop computer with 1 or 2 separate monitors, webcam, keyboard, and mouse preferable. Headset preferable but not required.

PC Requirements:

  • CPU Speed - Dual -Core 2.8 GHz or better or intel I class or AMD Phenom X2 class or better.
  • Hard Drive – 20 GB or more of available space. 60 GB or more of total space.
  • Memory – 4 GB of RAM minimum. 8 GB of RAM or better is preferable.
  • A minimum of one HDMI port and 3 USB ports. An HDMI to USB adapter may be needed.
  • Speed of Internet – Minimum of 10 mbps download / Minimum of 3 mbps upload.
  • Maximum Latency Threshold – 120 milleseconds (ms)
  • Monitor Recommendations – 1280 x 1024 (SXGA) screen resolution. 1920 x 1080p)
  • Operating system – Windows 10 with latest updates.
  • Windows 10 encompasses an anti-virus and ransomware product. Any additional anti-virus and/or ransomware is encouraged, but not required.
  • Microsoft 365 or Office 2016 or higher.
  • Separate windows login for work purposes only.

A Windows 10 PC is preferred, however with prior approval use of a MAC with an operating system of macOS Catalina 10.16.7 or latest version, may be approved, if the employee has the knowledge and skill required for appropriate setup to run Windows 10.
