Role: Personal Assistant ( accommodations and access )

Status: Contract up to 8-10 hours a week; ongoing (hours split between some scheduled and unscheduled time
Compensation: $25-$28 per hour, paid bi-monthly
About the Disability Project
The Disability Project magnifies the leadership, collective power, analysis, and visibility of trans and queer disabled, Deaf, ill and Mad communities while increasing Disability Justice capacity in the movements that seek to serve them
The Disability Project is staffed by a multi-racial, cross-class, cross-disability, and multi-generational disabled, Trans & NBY two-person team who co-lead the project’s work and strategy.
We are informed by a Community Advisory Board of trans, NBY Queer disabled, and Deaf people who bring additional BIPOC, cross-class, and cross-disability leadership to the project's work.
Position Summary
The Disability Project seeks a Personal Assistant to provide accommodations and access through administrative and programmatic literacy support to the Disability Project leadership. The Personal Assistant will be working closely with the Senior National Organizer (SNO )to develop, create and implement support systems for managing written and verbal communication, and administrative tasks related to the Disability Project
The ideal contractor: will be an active listener and an engaged learner who is experienced in administrative support work, has excellent communication and writing skills, and enjoys a ‘behind-the-scenes role.
They will bring strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and track multiple areas of work with an orientation toward task completion and developing sustainable and efficient systems. The ideal candidate will have been successful in similar roles - home-based Personal Assistant roles that involved employment assistance or, formal executive assistant, development associate, or program associate jobs.
Familiarity with disability justice politics/ activism and landscape is ideal, and/or a willingness to transfer relevant familiarity from other justice-based movement work ( reproductive, abolition, racial justice, migration, etc.) and analysis is essential.
Understanding and familiarity with working within multi-racial teams and centering marginalized leadership and communities.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about trans and racial justice and disability activism, who is committed to supporting and centering the leadership of Disabled, Deaf, and ill trans and NBY leadership
Responsibilities (80%)
Programmatic the PA will provide support for the:
- Support with the development and distribution of meeting agendas
- Support with Scheduling of internal and external SNO programmatic meetings
- Provide relevant advance meeting materials for the SNO, take notes, and compile action items and key takeaways.
- Management project-related timelines
Administrative
- Support the management of the SNO’s calendar - respond to and initiate calendar requests.
- Participate in phone, zoom, and in-person meetings as needed for access support and take notes and related meeting-generated administrative tasks
- Support with the development of a system to review, prioritize, and respond to email correspondence
- Support the SNO with low-tech social media tasks ( IG, FB )
- Provide writing and editing support for the SNO (e.g., emails, memos, written reports)
Mapping and collecting (20%)
- Research, map and summarize and then compile project-related information (i.e., state legislation, local campaigns, g/roots organizing efforts, around the DP’s key strategy areas )
- Locate and collate a resource list of current multi-issue disability-specific materials (Websites, articles, books, interviews, videos, organizations, etc.) with an emphasis on BIPOC and low-income leadership
About You
- You enjoy creating new systems and implementing new projects;
- You understand (and are excited to learn) how to adapt your communication style and support access and participation of disabled leadership.
- You are experienced in providing access, accommodations, or assistance to disabled, Deaf, or ill individuals either in work or home settings
- You have a proven ability to meet deadlines and are able to maintain accountability, and to work independently while playing a key role in a cooperative and coordinated team.
- You have strong organizational skills, are highly skilled in Microsoft Office, pay attention to details, and have a high degree of discretion;
- You understand how to deal with confidential and sensitive information with integrity.
- You have experience and are invested in receiving and providing feedback as a part of resolving conflict in an effective and balanced way.
- You have experience working on teams or in groups with people who have experienced multiple layers of systemic oppression and come from diverse backgrounds.
- Are able to commit to the time commitment and work hours falling in the EST timezone
